Iris

Swedish flagship - racing performance meets refined elegance.

Overview

46.6ft / 14.2m Arcona 460

When the Arcona 460 was launched in 2004 she became Arcona Yachts' flagship. She was developed after the same concept as their other Arcona models—a modern yacht design which is both fast and easy-to-manage for a small crew, with a well thought out layout featuring many elegant and smart solutions. Like every Arcona Yacht, the bow of the boat is slim and the stern wider to optimise sailing performance. The sail plan is quite large to get a quick responsive yacht, and she is built by professionals with the highest quality of materials and gear. Built in 2008 in accordance with European CE-regulations, she meets the demanding requirements of Category A-Ocean certification. This requires the yacht to be self-sufficient for more than 5 days and able to operate in waves up to 7 meters with winds up to Beaufort 10 (Storm). All structural bulkheads are laminated to the hull and deck, with a centrally placed steel girder bolted to the main bulkhead efficiently taking up loads from the keel and rig.

Her Story

Coming Home

Back to Swedish Waters

In 2024, we found her in Marmaris, Turkey, and brought her home through the Mediterranean, up the Atlantic coast, and finally to Saltsjöbaden, Stockholm—just a stone's throw from Arcona's headquarters in Gustavsberg. Under her previous name Caradue, she had sailed from Göteborg to Norway, then onwards to Greece and Turkey, where she spent years in the Mediterranean. Now back where she was born on Sweden's west coast, she's ready for new adventures in her home waters.

In spring 2025, we renamed her Iris.

The Name Iris

The name Iris comes from Arne's mother and Marcus's grandmother. Of Greek origin, Iris means 'rainbow' and refers to the Greek goddess of the rainbow—a divine messenger connecting heaven and earth. The name also graces a beautiful flower and describes the pigmented part of the eye, symbolizing beauty, hope, and connection across waters and generations.

Safety

Safety Equipment & Philosophy

Is this trip safe? The boat itself is sturdy and the crew is experienced. We're not planning on taking any risks and don't have a strict timeline, so we'll avoid bad weather and dangerous situations.

Arcona's build quality is very high. Every part of the hull is reinforced with thick material. She was built in accordance with European CE-regulations Category A-Ocean, requiring the yacht to be self-sufficient for more than 5 days and able to operate in waves up to 7 meters with winds up to Beaufort 10 (Storm).

All structural bulkheads are laminated to the hull and deck. A centrally placed steel girder bolted to the main bulkhead and laminated glass fibre stringers efficiently takes up loads from the keel and rig.

The engine is a Yanmar 75hp with turbo that has only run 1000 hours—very little for a boat engine. Electronics include the Raymarine E120 plotter and ST-6002 Autopilot, the best available systems from 2008.

Safety Equipment

  • Life-raft for 6 people
  • Basic life jackets for all crew
  • Man-Over-Board beacons & PLB (Personal Locator Beacon)
  • First aid kit with medical supplies and sea-sickness medication
  • Starlink broadband for up-to-date weather forecasts and emergency communication
  • Garmin InReach Mini 2: Satellite emergency response with 2-way SMS over Iridium
  • ORCA-pinger (harmless device to deter curious Orcas in Gibraltar)
  • Raymarine E120 plotter and ST-6002 Autopilot
  • 440Ah battery pack with inverter for 220V
  • Category A-Ocean certification (waves up to 7m, Beaufort 10)
